Nikki from Beads, Braids and Beyond has a giveaway of Curlformers (basically a novel way to curl your hair – it looks so easy!). There are so many ways you can enter the giveaway – up to 9 chances! Visit her Curlformers Styling Kit giveaway post. Closing: July 29th. (Actually I’m not sure whether this is open internationally – but I hope so!)

Well ok that’s it for now. Good luck if you guys are also entering!

Skype iPhone Cover Giveaway Winners!

The giveaway has ended and of course I have to announce the winners!

Using an excel sheet and Random.org, I have chosen 2 winners.

  1. Kelvin (email: iphone@maixxxxxx.com)
  2. Jasmine (twitter handle: @galovesongs)

Congratulations, Kelvin and Jasmine! Will contact you via e-mail/twitter soon to get your mailing address. Please reply promptly!

Note: Oops! I have got Kelvin’s name confused with Michael! I really apologize to both of you. Michael, you can join another giveaway I linked below ok? Thanks!

If you haven’t won, don’t worry! Robert is also having a Skype iPhone cover giveaway at his blog, so join if you want to! Of course the ones that have won should not join again, that won’t be fair ;)

Anyway, congrats, and I hope there will be more giveaways in the future!

Woe is Numbers

I live in Singapore where land is scarce. So scarce they need to grow vertically rather than horizontally. Living in a landed house, let alone a multi-story one, is a luxury here.

And so naturally in Singapore we live with numbers. A lot of them. Our apartment’s unit numbers, for example. It’s usually 4 numbers, #03-09, #04-05, #06-07, and so on. And of course our postal code number (every building has different postal code numbers! That’s how small Singapore is….). And a lot more.

This usually is not a problem for Singaporeans or someone who has lived in Singapore for quite some time. It was not a problem for me, at first. The problem comes when you move around (quite) frequently.

You see, when I just moved here, I occupy #34-xx (if I remember correctly). Then I moved to #08-xx. And then #05-xx. Now it’s #01-xx. And of course they all have different postal codes.

The problem usually occurs in the lift. When I was still in transition, I would often absent-mindedly press the wrong floor button. Is it 8, or is it 5? Problem also occurs when I’m off visiting my boyfriend for the weekend. You see, my boyfriend lives in #08-xx. Again, is it 8, or is it 5? Or is it……?

And I’m not finished. You know that sometimes apartments have these “nifty” enter-code-to-get-in stuff? Uh-huh. These things are usually coded with 4-digit codes. So yeah you can guess what happened. Even worse, when I lived in #05-xx, they regularly change the codes and I sometimes find myself stranded outside the gate because I forgot the new code, or I entered the wrong code thrice. Urgh.

Oh, and, remember those postal codes? I’ve lost count on how many times I wrongly entered my postal code when I’m ordering something online.

The problem with numbers is not only contained in addresses. Did you know that SBS Transit has around 300 buses, and of course, with different numbers?

Sometimes the problem is that two buses with almost same numbers (12x and 12x+1, for example) sometimes have almost similar route, while on the other hand, they can also have totally different routes. So imagine if they actually have totally different routes but you forgot which is which, and you boarded the wrong bus…… The rest, as they say, is history.

So how about you? Any number woes you’ve encountered, in Singapore and in somewhere else?

Test Post from Windows Live Writer

Been meaning to try this out for quite some time… I know, I know. I’m a Mac traitor.

My mac is currently undergoing repair because the fans don’t work. It’s a sign, perhaps.

Anyway, I’m using my boyfriend’s netbook right now. Lenovo S10. Very little and cute. The small keyboard needed some time to get used to, but overall it’s pretty great. No lagging, no crashing.

But by my experience usually when I start saying that it starts doing all funny thing.

Ok that’s all for my post! *ducks from rocks thrown*

By the way this WLW is really pretty spiffy. WYSIWYG editor, and it draws all the categories and tags available from my blog.

It can even
insert a table!

Home on the Range

Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day

For some reason, this song keeps ringing in my head. It came upon midnight clear onto my head, and as a result I put it on my MSN personal message. Everytime I open that MSN main window I see the lyrics, and it’s ringing in my head again. Repeat the cycle.

This is weird, because all my life I have always been living in a city with all the modern conveniences. Oh well, perhaps that’s why. I long for laid back, friendly, happy life on a country side. I need to go to Bangka, my dad’s hometown, soon.

By the way, do you know that “Home on the Range” is the state song of Kansas, USA? Here is the list of the state songs of USA.

Here’s the (static) video of the song.

A Pause

I wanted to upgrade my WordPress and preferably my theme (I need change!) before I start posting about Russia stuff again. I promise I won’t take a year, really.

But then I found out that tadah! This brilliant girl forgot the password to her FTP and database (phpMyAdmin) altogether.

So I’m gonna get hold of my other computer (which has saved password of the FTP, at least) and pray that skipping the database backup will be alright. Nothing has happened before, so I’m hoping that nothing won’t.

So let me observe a pause on my blog, while I search for a new theme (and upgrading the WordPress).

Wiping the dust off my blog

I know you’ll be like “Oh well, what’s new? Sylv disappeared without announcement and went back to post several trivial stuff.”

Nothing new, I will say.

Just let me tell you this : I’ve been writing, a lot. I’ve used writing as my way to channel my frustrations and whatnots since I was young.

But the thing of being a blogger is that you’ll always have to think about who will read the posts, about what to say and not to say, about what impact the post might have, etc etc etc. Yes, even personal posts, the so-called unimportant blogposts about how a day went through and everything, morons. Getting a friend angry over a blogpost is just too ridiculous and tacky.

So what I did was, I picked up a pen, and I grabbed my (unruled – this is important) notebook and wrote. I’ve been writing in another site too (can’t be bothered to link it now), and because the thoughts are jumbled and incoherent, I can’t bear myself to publish this in the blog (which I try so hard to maintain as a blog with coherent/cohesive sentences).

So.. What else should I say.

Ah. Out of boredom, I announced on plurk that I’m gonna send some people christmas cards. Hillary said “No! Don’t kill the trees!” and ding! Something appeared on my mind. Why don’t I make cards from recycled materials?

Without further ado, here’s my first one : (too lazy to make the next ones wahahaha)

Materials used : pizza box, cut-outs from brochures/promotional materials, cut-outs from newspaper. Tools used : cutter, glue, markers, scissors.

I’m actually thinking of making this into a charity event or something. You get one from me for a small amount of money and I’ll donate the money to some causes. Can’t figure out what cause to donate and how much should I charge and everything though.

Would you guys be interested though? Tell me in the comments (or you can reach me from, well, anywhere. For instance, the Contact Form is apparently very nifty!).

That’s all for now.

I don’t want to state the obvious

Search the thesaurus for the similar words of “busy”.

Say at least 10 of them.

That’s the state I’m in now.

Bear with trivial and unimportant entries for a while. Just a bit more.

Anyway, I’m setting up a new blog in SylvGee.Wordpress.Com for my assignment in class COMM215 : Digital Media Across Asia. Do come there and drop a comment or two, ok? I’ll be delighted to see you there!
