24th of May – The Opera in a Forest

I know it’s been so long! Nevertheless here’s my entry! :D

24th of May, the last day of our competition :)

It was the folk music category.. Songs that we sang:

  • Sohran Bushi (Japanese)
  • Xiao Huang Li Niao/小黄鹂鸟 (Mongolian folk song, sung in Mandarin)
  • Mamayog Akun (Philippines)
  • Dayung Sampan (Singapore, with melody adapted from a Chinese song)
  • Now I Walk in Beauty (Navajo traditional prayer, sung in English)
After the competition we have free time until the result announcement and closing ceremony. So we headed to Monte Cassino street to visit Krzywy Dom (sorry if I spelt it wrong!) a.k.a Crooked House.
It lives to its name, surely..

We ate at this cozy restaurant in the Crooked House.
Here’s what I ate!
Pieroghi (dumplings)

Pieroghi (dumplings)

Yummmmmmmmmmm :D
This thing is called pieroghi (again, excuse me if I spelt it wrongly). Basically they’re dumplings, stuffed with different type of things and then smeared with different sauces! The one you saw above was filled with meat and smeared with creamy sauce.
And here’s another one!
pieroghi!

pieroghi!

Yumz! This one was also stuffed with meat and some vegetables, and smeared with sour cream!
Okay if you’re wondering.. I did eat two portions of pieroghi! :P
The story was that.. I ordered for the 2nd one (the one with sour cream) but the waitress gave me the 1st one instead. Well honestly I was not sure that it’s the right one but she said that it’s the right one. So I ate it and halfway, she came to say sorry that it was mistaken, and brought another plate of pieroghi!
So kind of her, right?
Anyway, apparently our tour guide knows the owner of the restaurant and because of that.. She gave us..
me and honey vodka

me and honey vodka

Free shots of honey vodka! I know! I look damn happy with my vodka. It tastes delish! One of the choir member swore that her lost voice came back after the honey vodka. No kidding.
Other shots I took in the Crooked House was mainly shots of people (my friends, of course).
This is Jeremy..
Hehe.. The first “gloomy” photo is my favourite photo of the lot! He even used it for his profile picture once :P
This is George..
My other friends.. Jiaqi, Tracy, Jenevieve, and Dawn
The student conductor, Kenny.
Hehe.. He posed, ok!
After the food we walked around Sopot Pier once again before we took off to the Forest Opera (a.k.a Opera Lesna). It was a tiring walk, because we had to climb up a loooooooong trail.
So here I was, very tired (not sweaty coz it was cold and I couldn’t perspirate hahaha), in front of the gate!
And here’s a shot of what is inside!

This picture doesn’t do justice of how big it is.. Perhaps this photo I found in Flickr is more appropriate.

The organizer gave out flags! Remember that we didn’t have our own flags? Apparently they made some for us! How sweet right??
But anyway, being a true Indonesian..
Mwahahahaha. Please don’t kill me, please. It’s just a joke ;)

Aaaaanyway.
The choir won Silver Diplomas for both of the two categories!
Photo by Krishna (or somebody holding Krishna’s camera)
In photo were the section leaders of the choir!
If you see that they’re holding some piece of paper, it was the train ticket! Now we had this train ticket competition thing there.. I’ll let this drawn explanation by choir mate Kevin paint the picture for you..
Aaaaanyway.
The choir from the Philippines, University of Philippines Singing Ambassadors (UPSA) won all the categories!
A photo with them!
After all the ceremony and stuff, guess what we did…
Get it?
Get it?
Of course.. Paarrrrrtttaaaayyyyyy!!!! (DUH)
The food!
Sausage sausage sausage! Have I told you Poland has the best sausage? Sausage sausage sausage!
And of course some dancing to the music by an awesome band!
Made some new friends.. here’s a photo of me with an Estonian girl!
And that was 24th of May! Was so tired and numb after dancing and everything! Haha!
See you on the 25th of May, the last day in Poland! (was so sad of leaving)

My boyfriend’s 19th birthday – the preps and the props

My beloved boyfriend turned 19 on March 18th 2008. I know, I know, he’s young. But so am I. I’m only 2 months younger! *hint hint*

anyway..

Arrrgghhh why is my FLickr post bar not working??? It hinders my blogging!! Grrrr

*turning to ScribeFire*

paper, pencil, scissors, ruler

Okay, first off. Get a piece of paper, a pencil, a ruler, and a pair of scissors. Ready to go!

the 19 reasons

I have prepared “19 reasons why you should be happy that you’re turning 19 on March 18 2008″. Well if you can see in the picture it’s not 19 yet.. Well it took time to think about 19, you know!

the 19 reasons, handwritten

I hand-wrote all the reasons on the paper lined earlier.

cut, cut, cut!

And sooo the reasons are cut one by one..

all the messages are now cut

Finished cutting. It was kinda tiring..

the pencils

Getting the pencils ready. You didn’t think I was going to give the reasons just like THAT, right? These pencils are metallic and colourful. Got them from Daiso. Hehe.

another type of pencil used

Another type of pencil I used. Just a simple wooden pencil. Got them from Daiso too.

On to the wrapping!

wrap wrap wrap

Wrap wrap wrap..

finished products

They look like birthday candles no?

wrapped pencils close-up

The close up of the pencils.. This could have been a pretty picture had I had a better camera.

the 19th reason

Hehehehehehehe. This is the 19th reason! Guess what the 19th reason is! =P

wrapped pencils with all the instruments

The mess left.. Hahaha

trim here and there..

What’s left of the paper. My reasons were too wide so I had to trim them one by one.

Now is time to package them!
packaging
Due to time constraint.. I can only use this white envelope.

decoration
I hand-wrote those decorations too! It was “reasons” using different styles!

stuff them inside

Stuff the pencils inside..

finished packaging

Add two cute rabbit-head pin and it’s good to go! LOLz

Now is time for the next present…

After finished packaging suddenly a crazy idea pops out in my mind. And I quickly grab my purse and go to the nearest FairPrice at Shaw Plaza.

And here it is…
Chocolate cornflake “cake”!
You will know why I put the cake into quotes…

The first step..

melting the chocolate
Melt the chocolate!
I have very few cooking utensils at my home (I and my housemates usually eat out anyway). So I use anything I can find.

arranging the cornflakes
Arrange the cornflakes into cupcake cups. Hahaha. Couldn’t find any other appropriate cups and my time was limited.. So yah I juz bought whatever was available.
Initially I only wanted to make a few pieces.. Maybe like 10?

finished chocolate cornflakes
I poured the chocolate and sprinkled hundreds and thousands. I ended up making 19 pieces. Coz it’s his 19th birthday, remember?
I know, I know, the chocolate cornflakes are far from pretty and super messy. My very first attempt, ok?

Oh and because I don’t have any tray whatsoever, I juz used serviettes and spread them on the kitchen counter. It’s pretty easy and clean, actually. After finished doing everything I just gather the serviettes and throw them away. No washing necessary.

chocolate cornflake close-up
The close up.. Damn, I really want a proper digital camera. Preferably with macro. =(

And thennnnnnn….
I was confused about how to present the chocolate cornflakes for him. I didn’t have any board or anything that resembles that and I didn’t have time to go out and buy something again. And sooooo.. I proudly call myself creative. I took a plate and arrange the pieces in a circular way and pile some of them up and ta-dah! You can see the result!

my boyfriend with the "cake"
And here’s my boyfriend with the “cake”. Wonder what he’s looking at. Hahahaha.

boyfriend opening the present
He’s opening the presents! And as expected.. He only found 18 reasons inside the envelope and asked me for the 19th reason. So I gave him that enormous pencil… Hehehe.. I didn’t have time to take photo since he was already busy… Ehm… Hehehehehe =P

Happy birthday my darling! Hope you have a blast!

Valentine’s day 2008.. =)

Finally.. I can celebrate Valentine’s Day peacefully and happily, after going through meetings and God knows what else.

My boyfriend arrived at my home at 7.30 PM.. With that HUGE smile on his face. Hehehehe.

He gave me this rose!
rose

I’m so happy!
me and rose

And soooo we hailed a cab and went to Suntec City. Initially he wanted to take me to Marche. He knows I love Marche! =P Apparently, Suntec City was very full of couples =P and some freaky people trying to sell roses. Ha.

But then…. Apparently Marche closed down!! =( It really just disappeared. We thought we were in the wrong place, but then we checked the directory.. And no… Marche is not there anymore.. Sigh…

Since Suntec City got many (maybe hundreds of) restaurants, we decided to stay in Suntec City. My eye caught Sizzler. My boyfriend had never been there, but I did, when my very very kind piano teacher treated me and her tenants (which are my friends) to christmas dinner there. I told him it’s nice, so he agreed to go there.

Well, you know.. Suntec City fountain terrace is huge, so we went there, and initially got lost, and finally found the restaurant. While walking along the fountain terrace we actually had a thought to switch to Fish n Co instead, but the queue was….er.. violent. LOL.

Moreover, my boyfriend really likes the ambience of Sizzler that night. They put candles on every table and the lights were kinda dimmed, so yeah :D

(I juz realize I didn’t take any pictures. I think we were too excited -_-)

We ordered the meal with free unlimited salad from the salad bar. And the salad bar in Sizzler is just goodness. They not only have some vegetables, they also have some meat, some delicious pre-made salad (potato tuna salad!!), a nacho bar, and a pasta bar! Moreover, it offers free ice cream with free sprinklers. So make your own ice cream! (and you can go back and forth again and again and again since it’s unlimited =P)

After that… We went back to my home. And this is the time.. Of unwrapping!

the presents, unopened
The two presents from my boyfriend =)

Opening the first one and tadah!
the first present - ferrero rocher
It’s a box of Ferrero Rocher. FYI, it’s a box of Ferrero Rocher that he brought to my house when he suddenly popped up that morning and said “I love you” to me. =D Er well.. I rejected him at first =P But now since we’re together, he gave me this box of Ferrero Rocher again =D

The second present..
second present, unwrapped

Hehe.. Wonder what is inside..

So I opened and..
second present
A cute photo frame!
And what’s cuter, the picture inside that frame! It’s my favourite cat picture!!

It’s this one..
im in ur side / stealin ur heartz
moar humorous pics

And then.. This is the Valentine card..
valentine's day card
The content is confidential! =P

And here’s my boyfriend trying to open his present (read : how to make last-minute valentine’s day gift)
my boyfriend and his present
He’s blending with the background.. =P

All in all, it was a very pleasant day.
Love you my darling..
Thank’s for the wonderful day. And being the wonderful you =)

How to make last-minute Valentine’s day gift

Well. Turns out some weird ideas may come anywhere anytime. Soooo here is what I did..

Ferrero Rocher
Buy some chocolate. Any chocolate will do. You can even buy your boyfriend/girlfriend’s favourite chocolate

paper, pencil, and ruler
Get a piece of paper, a pencil, and a ruler

Make a line of 1.5 cm width, and then…
Cut!
Cut!

small message
Write some mushy message on the cut paper… It needs patience and concentration to write that small

And then..
ferrero rocher, wrapped
Wrap it around the chocolate!
Just because I felt like it, I added 2 lame “eyes”.

P.S. You can use longer paper and thus, longer mushy message. heh heh heh.

Some random interesting photos..

Warning : many pictures ahead.

I guess it’s better to publish them rather than let them rotting in my cellphone. Here goes the photos..

These are pizzas, covered with omelettes. What? You’re saying “Huh?”. Well yea they are made by my housemate. And by the way, it tasted nice.

The following are the photos I took during Metamorphosis, the orientation camp for the freshmen of School of Information Systems. In one station of our game, which was located at Vivocity, we were told to take photos of the things that have colours matching the requirement. Here goes..

I’m A Camwhore

I truly am. But not the usual camwhore. (definition, you ask? You bet.)

I like taking pictures. Of anything. Anyone. Anywhere.

A photographer wanna-be? Yeaaaah, you can say that.

(I’m learning, okay. I AM learning)

Neeway, these are some of the photos I’ve taken in several days back…

I went to Ben and Jerry’s free cone day on Tuesday. Yes, FREE. Now it’s free as in free beer not in freedom.

Check out the queue line babes…

I was queuing from the third floor, while Ben and Jerry’s is located at the second floor. No I’m not lying.

That is the ice cream counter. One of the ladies there was very nice that she gave me double scoops! Yeay.

These are my friends… Queuing with me…

Oh and the day before that, I went to Maegan’s place for a barbecue party. Oh yeay so yeay. This is the only photo I took with my phone… People preparing the bbq..

The rest of the photos I took that day rests peacefully in my friend’s digicam. Sigh. Buy me one please. In fact many photos I took, not only this time, rest peacefully in somebody’s digicam. Sigh.

Oh and this is the last photo….

Yeah, come envy me you guys. Woo-hoo. =P

The Tale of Ice Kachang

Ice Kachang is….

Ah. Please tell me you don’t really think that I’m going to define it. Please click here for the wikipedia page.

Ice Kachang is my favourite dessert in Singapore (and apparently they have something like this in Bangka, my father’s kampong, too. And I also love it). It is cheap (if you don’t convert it to Rupiahs, of course), sweet, and… Hmm. You gotta try it by yourself.

So take a look:

The Ice Kachang @ Food Republic @ Wisma Atria. I and Yanice love to get it messy! haha.

((note: the link to wisma atria is Yahoo Travel link. I tried to retrieve link to its official website but it didn’t work. So, enjoy the link. With the so-long-ago photo showcased. Oh puh-leez.)

Finished! Hee hee. Look at the little flood we made! FYI, it was also dripping to floor and our shoes… Hohohohohohohoho.

Oh, the thing you saw at the background is fried carrot cake, btw.

Another unlucky Ice Kachang to be encountered…

This one is Kopitiam’s.. Colourful, don’t you think so?

Finished! Hee hee. Look at that colourful “dots”. Hohohoho.

Anybody fancy to eat ice kachang together with me?? *winks winks*

P.S. I still hate wordpress’ WYSIWYG editor.

The new category : Photolog

Well. I’m not being an exhibitionist or something something like.. Er. I’m not that mean to provide links to those exhibitionists who think that the internet is a safe place to showcase themselves. Like, er, flashing boobs or something? Argh. Enough.

Er. Anyway. So.

A picture’s worth a thousand words. So, rather than thinking hard of something worth reading, why not just post pictures and the blogging duty done already?

So. Anyway.

Enjoy. :D
