Obama is a moslem, so he can’t be voted for president

Well, she didn’t exactly tell me directly since I only saw her wall-to-wall on Facebook with somebody else. To be honest, I’m really disappointed. Not only she’s so unknowledgeable that she doesn’t know that Barack Obama is indeed not a Moslem, but also to be sooooo.. erm.. discriminative?
I’m like, eeks. And since I saw it, it’s just been bugging me. Like seriously. Why can’t a moslem become a president? Because they fast once a year? Because they do prayers 5 times a day? Because they have annual animal slaughtering?
Indonesia’s presidents are all Moslems as long as I know. Or is it why she decided to go abroad and study at a missionary college (yes you saw it right)? Because she can’t stand a country with a Moslem as the president?
Geez. Unbelievable.
Oh and her “religion views” on Facebook : “I love Jesus, but I don’t do religion”
Yeah, right.
I’m so not impressed.
Disclaimer : I’m a christian. Catholic, if you may say.

I am not American and neither am I going to launch into some history lesson here but maybe you might want to read up on American history and find out what principles the country (though in its deplorable state now) was founded upon.
ah.. that the president shouldn’t be a moslem I suppose? Same as Indonesia that the president must be a moslem.
actually what’s bugging me is not that obama is a moslem (he is not). It’s just that my friend’s state of mind.. which is very discriminative and kinda.. erm.. stupid if i may say.
We should have a jewish president for Indonesia soon. This way you understand that you are equally as dumb as that other girl.
A president must represent his country best. For a Muslim country, it’s hardly surprising that Indonesia’s president are all Muslims. As such, it’s highly improbable that the US will have a Muslim president. They do have a Muslim representative in the senate. I applaud them for that. To have a representative as part of a collective group is one thing, but one person to represent all? That is asking a bit too much. Historically, the migrants who sailed over to the US were made of largely well.. puritans. Not all, but a large part of them. So her comment, though glib, ignorant and not very intelligent, does reflect that it is virtually impossible to have Muslim president for US.
There is great suspicion and animosity in the US towards Islam so do try to understand the sort of fear and insecurity people have when they don’t really take the time to know their presidential candidates. The unfortunate case is that the majority – in any place, country or region – is almost always ignorant. (=
We don’t have to use the example of a Jewish president for Indonesia because, if I’m not mistaken, the state does not recognize the religion at all. In the same way that the US will not have a Muslim president, Indonesia won’t have a Christian president, precisely because the majority of the electorate will never vote for him or her, at least at this juncture.
I wouldn’t vote for Obama if he were a Moslem either! Do you know how they treat women? Do you know that they see women as inferior creatures that should serve men? Sheesh! How could anyone vote for a Moslem in this country?
