My Songs…

Posted by: Sylvia Giacinta In: music

After reading my previous blog post, my groupmate cancelled a meeting and forced me to rest at home. Thank’s, groupmate.

So while I’m relaxing, I realize that my music library has grown now (don’t ask how).. I guess it’s time to share again =P

So how it works.. I’ll put my music player (now it’s iTunes not Windows Media Player anymore) and shuffle it. These are the 10 songs that came out…

(Oh thank’s to Apple remote I can easily go to the next song.. :D)

Back at One - Brian McKnight
Voice from heaven? It is. I really wonder why sometimes some people are so talented. I’m jealous. Hehehe. =P

“One.. You’re like a dream come true.. Two.. Just wanna be with you.. Three.. Coz it’s plain to see, that you’re the only one for me..”

Honeymoon Day - Arrested Development

A nice song (that guitar riff!), combining a bit rap and a nice drum beat. Certainly a nice song to hear in the morning. It will cheer you up =D

“Come on and show me your way, this is our honeymoon day!”

Yellow - Coldplay

Yeah! Coldplay! I love Coldplay for their repetitive guitar rhythms and drum beats, plus the soothing voice from Chris Martin. It makes you calm and meditative while nodding your head and tapping your feet. I remember listening to this song when I was just 11 (that’s 7 years ago!) inside the car while my father was driving me to school. 7 years have passed and this song still stays as my favourite. A classic.

“And it was all yellow….”

I Believe I Can Fly - R. Kelly
Even though R. Kelly himself has turned into a more commercial R&B artist (which I don’t frequently listen anymore), this song remains a classic. Come on, can you say this song as a bad song?

“I believe I can flyyyyyyyyy………”

She’s in Fashion - Suede
I guess you can see the pattern of my favourite songs now? Those with repetitive forms of guitar riffs/drum beats.. And some funky sounds.. Hmm I wonder where’s the band Suede now? I would really love to have more of them.

“She’s in fashion.. Ooh ooh ooh…”

Vulnerable - Secondhand Serenade
One more of my favourite style : acoustic! Maybe this comes from my classical music education background. I effing love this song. Freaking romantic. And he really made the song for his wife.. Oh noes. I want a musician husband/boyfriend, right freaking now.

“I was born to tell you I love you.. Isn’t that a song already?”

Anthem of Our Dying Day - Story of the Year
Shock! I like emo songs too! Hahaha. In fact, there was one time when I really fell in love with rock songs. Those with super loud sounds. Hahaha. Maybe it was a puppy love =P nevertheless, this is one good piece. I like the full-of-energy voice of the vocalist.

“Anthem.. of.. our… dying… day…!!!”

I’ve Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song) - Fall Out Boy
This is a pretty new song in my library. Of course only nice songs made it to my library =P I need songs like this when I’m studying. Stimulating my brain so that I won’t fall asleep.

“And the record won’t stop skipping, and the lies just won’t stop slipping”

Di Balik Awan - Peterpan
(translation : Behind the clouds)
I don’t have many Indonesian songs in my music library. Not that I’m not patriotic whatsoever, it’s just that I’m too used to English songs since I was small. My mother listens to English songs ever since I was so small (mother said my favourite song is The End Of The World by Skeeter Davis. Look at this post for more info).
Peterpan is a very famous band in Indonesia. My brother likes them so much. Hmm, maybe that was an understatement. My brother used to play their songs in loop (IN LOOP) many many times using the home’s hi-fi. At first, of course it’s ok, but then if you’re still sleeping and forced to hear the same song again and again, er…….

“Tempatku melihat di balik awan, aku melihat di balik hujan…”
(The place for me to see behind the clouds, I see behind the rain..)

Feeling Good - Michael Buble
I remember that this song are among the first ones added to my library when I just moved to Singapore. The reason? I just randomly got it from somewhere. Hehe. And of course, since I like male sultry voice and jazzy songs, this song made it to become my favourite.

“And I’m feeeeeeeee-lin’ gooooooodddddd…”

Glamorous - Fergie
And I also like those mainstream songs… What kind of music listener am I? Hahaha..
Hey but we must admit that this track is really well engineered. Listen at those beats and additional sounds (I heard chimes, some jazz organ sounds, strings, sirene…)

“The glamorous, the glamorous.. Ooh, the flossy flossy..”

Life Goes On - LeAnn Rimes
I like talented girls. Plus if they’re pretty. Oh, maybe they’re not pretty, only because of Photoshop wonder. Oh wellz. Never mind. By the way, this song is my favourite song back from my junior high school days.

“Life goes on, and it’s only gonna make me strong. It’s a fact, once you get on board, say goodbye coz you can’t go back..”

Goodnight and Go - Imogen Heap
Ever heard the song? Yes, the Mac OS X Leopard intro song! And true it was from there that I came to know this pretty song. Nice beats. Nice voice. 2 beats of only voice and beat, then came the “full version”. I like it. Like it. :D

“Why’d you have to be so cute? It’s impossible to ignore you…”

Cinta ‘Kan Membawamu Kembali - Dewa 19
(translation : Love Will Bring You Back)
Another popular band from Indonesia. This one is my mom’s favourite. Just listen. Even though you don’t understand Indonesian, I’m sure you’ll agree that this one song is a killer. A heartbreaker.

“Cinta ‘kan membawamu kembali di sini..Menuai rindu, membasuh perih…”
(Love will bring you back here.. Easing the longing, healing the pain…)

The Sweetest Thing - U2
The sweetest song from U2, IMO. Kinda old song, huh? I remember seeing the video clip when I was still in elementary school.. That time I didn’t even understand the meaning of the song =P Who cares. I only cared that there was Boyzone in the video clip. (Yes, I was a fan of Boyzone. Come on lah, elementary school student..)

“O-o-oh, the sweetest thing..”

Whoa, it’s 15 songs already!

And as usual.. Enjoy my fave songs via this nifty mp3 player.. Brought to you by myflashfetish.. =D Oh and yeah, some songs are linked to its particular youtube video.

music player
I made this music player at MyFlashFetish.com.

And by the way, the page Sylv Sings is updated with my cover of Britney Spears’ Everytime, complete with backing track. :D

Wow. I’ve never known Imogen Heap’s on Mac OS X advert. I’ve been a fan of her since she was in Frou Frou.

Now let me look for the Mac OS X ad.

uzyn, I think it’s not the ad.. It’s the trailer.. Remember, before the Leopard is officially released and before the video guide to Leopard, there was a trailer..

wilfrid, hehe of course. I’ve been known for my eclectic music taste. And by eclectic I mean “too various”. =P

Great songs!

Found your blog linked from another I was reading. Btw, some coincidence - I’m an Indo-Chinese (Hakka) from Singapore (before I moved to the US), with family in Jakarta, and my name is Sylvia too! :) Small world, eh?
