Better safe than sorry

One of the headache of being overly dependent to computer is to manage the data we store. And yeah it’s my headache too. I have various school data, which means my schedule, my learning materials (which includes presentation slides, pdf version of articles, and what-nots), and some other things. Not counting my music and other media things I have in my computer. (I guess it’s a no-brainer reason why my previous laptop quit on me)

I own an external hard disk. But in a short time it’s already full of my backups. The troublesome thing is that eventually I have several versions of backup, which is not really necessary. And in just a short period my external harddisk is bloated.

Then I suppose this is the way to go.. online backup! No worries of deleted files (shit can happen to external harddisk, as you know). And no worries of several versions of backups since it automatically updates the files. And the best reason is that it’s automated! It’s the way to go for busy people (like yours truly). And it has an easy interface, just like windows explorer. Go, you Window$ users!

Idrive offers free service and paid service. The free one gives you 2GB space, which is quite good enough if you don’t have enough data. Well honestly it won’t fit me since my music library alone is almost 4GB. But the paid service, I think, is not so expensive considering the ease of backing up your files automatically.

Manual is out. Automatic is in.

Makes me wonder…

Sometimes I pass by the roads we passed together before. Hand in hand, smile on face, nervous giggles and happy chattering. We were happy. Or at least I daresay so.

Sometimes I sit at the same place where we’ve eaten together before. Sometimes even with the same food. And I just can’t help those pictures of our moments playing in my head. I just can’t.

And every Sunday when I go to church, I just wonder why I don’t go with you as we used to be…

And sometimes there’s just this moment where we’re together in the same place, and something or somebody just popped something that surely reminds us of a moment. But we say nothing. I just wonder whether you’re secretly recalling it in your mind, just like I do…

Sometimes I just wonder whether you recall the things the same way I do. How can I forget you, when every inch of Singapore is just reminding me of you?

Time flies. Things will change. We might end up in separate ways, not the way we (or at least I) secretly planned in mind.

I’m never good at one-to-one conversation, so here I tell you. I miss you. Sometimes like hell. Sometimes I tell myself that I don’t. Or at least I tried. Nevertheless I can’t put aside the fact that I really miss you. Not the you I know now. Not the you the people know. People may not know you change, but I do. When people say you’re always committed to whatever you do, I just hide my aching heart inside…

I miss your smile. Not the ordinary smile. That honest wide smile that makes your eyes look even smaller. I might sound pervert but I miss your touch. The warm touch which I never got from anybody. Your hand. Your shoulder.

And I miss sniffing your aroma…

And after countless times I’ve told myself to go on, here I am. Typing this very blogpost with tears running down my cheeks, each of them shouting “I miss you”.

I just wonder whether you ever miss me too…

Independence Day Celebration

A late celebration was held yesterday at the embassy featuring performances, and of course bazaar with many stalls.

I was there in a stall set up by SMUKI to sell girls’ clothing. I was so-called the “front line” coz I was the one shouting at the girls.. Haha..

And this is what was left from the celebration…

Tsk.

Today is the 24th of August..

So it’s the birthday of my siblings! Do note that I use plural form.

Yeah, it’s the birthday of my twin siblings. And they are boy-girl twin, mind you!

The photo of them. They took it by themselves. Ha ha ha. I guess camwhoring runs in family =P

Happy birthday, Gustav and Patricia. =) You might not understand what I’m writing right now as your English still sucks =P Well, I wish both of you can be fluent soon. Your dearest eldest sister, who is none other than yours truly, became fluent in the age of 15 or so. You guys are 12 now, so still 3 years to go.

Whoa. You guys are 12.

Seriously, I can’t really accept the fact that you guys have grown up. I don’t need to be a parent to experience the feeling “oh no my kids have grown up, i can’t take this”.

Maybe this means you guys won’t listen to me anymore. You guys won’t follow my clothing rules (Patty, no tank tops and short pants please!!!) anymore. You guys won’t buy me some ice cream and snacks just because I want to (oops =P) anymore.

I can’t buy Patty these stupid pink fancy things anymore. Maybe now you want some sleek bag and simple-yet-kewl T-shirt (your sister’s favourite :D ). Maybe Gustav won’t do his hair like he used to do anymore. Maybe bald is in, bro.

Whatever. I miss you guys. I miss you guys a lot. I miss you until I’m lost for words.

Happy birthday. Study hard. Stop watching the cheesy soap operas (for Patty). Stop watching the stupid “mystic” shows (for Gustav). Keep pursuing your hobby, life is not just about studying, even though our parents make it look like so. Keep being tech-savvy, you are MY siblings, FGS!

All in all, may you have the most pleasant day in a year.

Your sister,
Sylv

Should I? =)

Okay. Things said straight. I’ve been making songs. As in, real songs. The thing is, I guess I’m not that confident enough to release it.

So it’s simple. I just want opinion from you guys, my readers, whether I should release my song. It would be embedded in a post somewhere in this blog of course.

I just need more proof to make myself confident about my musical talent. So if you really think I deserve it, please do help me to prove it.

But sorry to say, my song would be a cappella. That is, without accompaniment whatsoever. Oh, and yea, I’m the one who sings it. Oh if you want to hear me sing, just click on “Sylv sings…” tab at the main menu bar. =)

So it’s easy. Just submit your vote in the poll I made below.

Thank you =)

Should I release the song?
Yeah!
Nah..

This could be my next holiday…

I know, I know. Just 2 days in school and already thinking about holiday. Man, I need something to think about beside my courses, goddammit. Soooo found this would be interesting…

Florida from space

Florida!

I mean, you’ve heard about it, right? Sunny sky, beautiful beaches, sexy hunks… :P

And I guess this is gonna be my favourite.. Theme parks! Geez. The Dufan in Jakarta is super cheesy now (though I won’t refuse if asked to go :P ). And in Singapore? Don’t ask. Where got place? They said so.

Aghhhh typing about it really makes me wanna go. Right. This. Second. To escape from this mundane school reality…

My usual trouble to have a holiday is (beside money) the accomodation. Well but luckily I found out about these pretty Orlando vacation homes… I’m just amazed of the facilities they offer. It’s a 4-bedroom villa (which can accommodate my whole family, and plus my grandparents and cousins maybe. It’s big!) which has 6 bathrooms and a big lounge complete with HDTV. And then they have swimming pool and games room.. Andddddd (this is what I love most) they have wi-fi all around the villa! Wheeeeee. I can blog all about my vacation there, I guess :P The list of the facilities can be found here. Oh and then they have this reunion resort and Disney vacation rentals which is placed to accommodate you to take advantage of the theme parks which are only 10 minutes away from the resort!

Haizzzzzz I really wanna go now… Somebody pay for me pleaseeeeeeeeee?

Ok…

Time to switch back to reality……

*OFF*

Indonesia National Day – Happy Birthday Indonesia!

Note: This post’s timestamp had been edited.

It’s funny that the national days of my home country and the country I’m living in are really close to each other. And Singapore had fireworks display at the night of the 17th! Okay, I consider that a celebration. Hahaha.

So how are you doing, Indonesia? You’re 62 now. Old and weary, I suppose? Still trying hard to stand up to be the “great lion of Asia” again? It’s been 10 years… Whoa FGS it’s been 10 years!! There were a lot of things going on. The monetary crisis, the terrible riot, the earthquake(s), the tsunami…

A lot of things can change in 10 years. The “Indonesia? Is it in Bali?” kind of joke is already cheesy. Now they know you as a insert-any-negative-adjective-here country. They call you terrorist’s basecamp. They call you corrupt. They call you unstable. They forget about your unbeatable beaches at Bali (I swear I haven’t seen beach that is more beautiful than Bali’s). They forget about your always-smiling people (tell that to Singapore people). They forget that you are, indeed, a pleasant country…

Nevertheless, you’re still my home country. The country that I still call my home. The country where I was born and raised. To be honest, I don’t regret leaving you. But I must admit that I miss you so much. I miss those cheap cute accessories. (Damn, why does my fetish for accessories grow after I left you?) I miss using cars to go everywhere. And I miss those goddamn hawkers that sell the most delicious food on earth, delivered to my door!

So what’s up? I bet there are a lot of things going on in you. People going to Monas to….. do something. Flag ceremonies.. Ooh, speaking of flag ceremony, I can’t believe the fact that I miss flag ceremony now. The damn thing that forced me to stand for 1.5 hours to see a flag going up and hear some bullshit… Gosh. Hey Singapore friends, do you guys have flag ceremonies too? =)

Oh and you surely have those competitions!! And I found many pictures of it from internet..

I signed up for PayPerPost!

Haha yea. I know I’m pretty late on this thing. Many people are already posting their payments from payperpost and I just began. But anyway, here goes. I finally signed up for payperpost. It’s a cool blog advertising network that connects you to advertisers who are willing to pay you lump sum of money to blog about them! Well I admit that at first I’m kinda reluctant to do so since I’m afraid I’ll fill my blogs with advertisements. But then I learn that I can take control of what I want to write. So it’s not like the advertisers forcing you to write about them in a certain manner. Soooo….. here I am! Don’t worry, I’ll mark every post as “sponsored” so don’t worry of being fooled or something.

Do join PayPerPost! I found it as a cool way to make money, without losing much sweat. I mean, how hard it is to type a blogpost? hahaha.. And the price is pretty cool too! I can make good money which I can use to fulfill my daily needs.. Well, you know, it’s nice to pay everything by yourselves. Let my parents focus on my siblings ;) hahaha.. I sound like a very family-girl type…

So, welcome, payperpost!
