Getting High

Earlier this day I volunteered to be a student marshal for the graduating students of SMU. Okay the job name sounds nice but actually my job is only helping the students where they’re supposed to sit and ushering them to the venue of their degree award ceremony. Oh and I had to wear a marshal gown. You know, those gowns that academics wear at the so-called ceremony? (Not a pretty pretty gown, FGS!) And PLEASE. It was hideous ok. It made me look damn big. Like, enormously big.

I didn’t even dare to take photo. Just wait for 3 years later. I would be wearing a better looking one.

And anyway, the “getting high” thingy is not about being a student marshal. It is more… literal.

Of Nothingness…

Since I came back to Singapore from Jakarta, I literally have nothing to do.

Some people eagerly question why on earth would I want to come back to Singapore so soon (after 3 weeks being in Jakarta is considered fast, regarding my 4-month-long holiday).

Well the thing is, I just love to… have nothing to do.

For me it’s a luxury. A thing that maybe just those socialites can have. You know who I’m talking about.

And moreover, in Singapore, I have access to a thousand things which I don’t have access to in Jakarta. Firstly, convenient and secure transportation. While it is a BIG problem to go around in Jakarta (reference : this post), it’s such a tiny problem here. Just hop on a bus and I can go anywhere safely and conveniently (except when the bus is so full and I have nothing to hold on to and the bus is going so fast AND the driver brakes violently). Take MRT and I can go around the island (which is smaller than my hometown. Let alone my country).

And then the next thing is privacy. In Jakarta I live with my family and I share my room with my sister. Not that I hate them. After all, they’re my family. But sometimes, you know, sometimes you just want to know more about your family. Especially when he/she is living abroad for so long. It must be kinda weird when the family you live with for all your life suddenly disappears because he/she moves abroad. So, you know, my family went from just asking kaypoh (nosy) questions like “Have you had a boyfriend now?”, “Who are you hanging out with there?”, “Where do you usually go?”, “When do you usually sleep?” to rummaging through my baggage. Dunno what to find though. Boyfriend’s boxer that I accidentally packed into my baggage? (Not that I really did, and not that I have a boyfriend)

And of course, the last but certainly not least, internet. I hate to be dependent on internet since I moved to Singapore (please, I lived without internet for many many years) but I have to admit that internet is one of my daily essential need now. Sigh. I’m one of those technology victims.

However, if somebody wants to get me out of this nothingness, I won’t mind. Ask me to go out or ask me to help you with something (research, project, job, anything?), I will be more than happy to offer my help.

Meanwhile, let me enjoy my nothingness…

Ping.sg 1st anniversary party

First of all, happy belated birthday ping.sg!

I joined ping.sg not so long ago (after stumbled upon somebody’s blog), and I’m so glad to be the part of the community. Naturally I like to make friends and ping.sg really helps me to do that!

I know, I’ve been quite lazy (if you don’t want to say very) to update my blog. Dunno why. I’m still in lazing mood i guess.

So without further ado… Earlier this day (or should I say yesterday) I went to Geek Terminal (finally!) to attend the ping.sg’s 1st anniversary party. At first I was kinda reluctant because I didn’t know many people (in real life) and one friend I asked to go said he’s got something else to do. But well, I went anyway. Yeah, because I got nothing to do. Got the picture. Neeway. The event was cool, but what I like the most is the venue!!! So cool! They have these cool power plugs that only need to be turned clockwise to be turned on. And this cool rippling virtual fish pond! OMG!

Here’s the video of me and chillycraps “hammering” the fishes.. Me with the purple t-shirt and white pearl necklace.. Wahahahaha…

(Thank’s a lot rinaz for the video!)

I didn’t get nominated at all or chosen to present something, but that really doesn’t matter. To me what matters is to find these people you only know from the blogs (and shoutbox) and networking. Ooh I love networking.

So to the bloggers I met today, sorry I can’t mention you all one by one, nice to meet you! Hope to see you again in the future meet up! (or in another situation : see you online!)

Edit :
Another (humiliating) video of me and chillycraps hammer-fighting…
I’m seriously laughing at myself. LOL.

The Eclectic Music Taste

[copy pasted from my last.fm journal]

First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one (DO NOT count your top 20 artists, only the similar artists).
