Since I came back to Singapore from Jakarta, I literally have nothing to do.
Some people eagerly question why on earth would I want to come back to Singapore so soon (after 3 weeks being in Jakarta is considered fast, regarding my 4-month-long holiday).
Well the thing is, I just love to… have nothing to do.
For me it’s a luxury. A thing that maybe just those socialites can have. You know who I’m talking about.
And moreover, in Singapore, I have access to a thousand things which I don’t have access to in Jakarta. Firstly, convenient and secure transportation. While it is a BIG problem to go around in Jakarta (reference : this post), it’s such a tiny problem here. Just hop on a bus and I can go anywhere safely and conveniently (except when the bus is so full and I have nothing to hold on to and the bus is going so fast AND the driver brakes violently). Take MRT and I can go around the island (which is smaller than my hometown. Let alone my country).
And then the next thing is privacy. In Jakarta I live with my family and I share my room with my sister. Not that I hate them. After all, they’re my family. But sometimes, you know, sometimes you just want to know more about your family. Especially when he/she is living abroad for so long. It must be kinda weird when the family you live with for all your life suddenly disappears because he/she moves abroad. So, you know, my family went from just asking kaypoh (nosy) questions like “Have you had a boyfriend now?”, “Who are you hanging out with there?”, “Where do you usually go?”, “When do you usually sleep?” to rummaging through my baggage. Dunno what to find though. Boyfriend’s boxer that I accidentally packed into my baggage? (Not that I really did, and not that I have a boyfriend)
And of course, the last but certainly not least, internet. I hate to be dependent on internet since I moved to Singapore (please, I lived without internet for many many years) but I have to admit that internet is one of my daily essential need now. Sigh. I’m one of those technology victims.
However, if somebody wants to get me out of this nothingness, I won’t mind. Ask me to go out or ask me to help you with something (research, project, job, anything?), I will be more than happy to offer my help.
Meanwhile, let me enjoy my nothingness…
