The Daughter of Audio

I do many weird things in Jakarta. Contrary to the popular belief, I’m not feeling bored in Jakarta although what I essentially do is just wake up-eat-watch DVD/read books/teasing siblings/playing with the new dog-eat-sleep-wake up-etc.

There is this one thing I do that is so interesting I just wanna share =P well, I don’t really have time to go through my music collection while in Singapore. My music bank was just my “filler” to make me not feeling lonely while doing.. Well you know what I’m doing in Singapore. But in Jakarta, hearing my favourite tunes through my headphone made me realize unique things about recordings.

Note : I recommend using headphone to hear the tracks I include below

I guess, usually, vocal-focused tracks will be engineered in such a way that when you’re using a headphone to hear them, the singer’s voice will be “in the middle”. (Btw, my father said good speakers are speakers that can make the voice appears to be “in the middle”)

This is an example of that kind of track. “Vulnerable” by Secondhand Serenade. I might say that this track is kinda plain (not regarding the melodies/lyrics. That part, it’s wonderful). The track is engineered in a way that it stays to be “in the middle”. Well, it’s an acoustic piece anyway. That’s the best way, I suppose. You will be annoyed to hear the guitar strums playing in the left ear, then right ear, then left ear again, right?

More Or Less..

From Jakarta to Singapore, it would be a helluva difference.. So to sum up..

In Jakarta,

I eat less

I know, Jakarta for me is heaven of food. Cheap and ubiquitous. And the best thing, sometimes you just don’t need to go out to get food. Because they will come to you.. Literally. They usually sell their food door-to-door, usually on a cart or a bicycle. You won’t have it in Singapore. Who wants to sell door-to-door in an apartment?

The thing is, my parents and siblings and other family members that you can think of have been complaining to me about the drastic increase of my weight. So.. You know the story.

In case you’re wondering, here’s my photo long long ago.. I was 14 or so..

my big photo at my home

The photo is hung on the wall in my home in Jakarta.

And the next thing is, there’s no damn convenience store that opens 24 hour near your house that gives you a reason to go out at 3 AM because you’re feeling peckish. And no friends living near your home who sometimes can be devilish enough to persuade you to go out for supper with them.

And the next thing… Several days back I got sick. Stomachache and headache. Father said it was because I was not really used to dirty food (read : Jakarta food) anymore. Sigh. Lost 2 kilos instantly because of the damn sickness. Oh I should not curse it. I should yeay for it. (reference : paragraph 2)

Screaming Out From Jakarta

The title should be taken literally.

Just quick updates. I’m still in Jakarta, wasting away my productivity (my age is considered “productive” right?).

Daily schedule : wake up-eat-watch DVD (which is so cheap)/play with dog/read-eat-sleep-and so on…

Will be back in Singapore by 28th of June. I’ve prepared many blogposts, which I can’t post now because I’m in a public cyber cafe (my blogposts are at my laptop at home).

‘Til then, have a good day.

Loves,
Sylvia

Home

Another summer day has come and gone away
In Paris and Rome, but I wanna go home…

Michael Buble, Home.

Dirty carpet.

Gloomy and dark airport.

Long immigration queue.

Baggage that took eons to arrive.

People that tried to steal my laptop.

Traffic jam.

Ah… home.
