The End Of The World
Why does the sun go on shining?
Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don’t they know it’s the end of the world?Skeeter Davis, The End Of The World
No, no. This isn’t a post about global-warming-is-going-to-make-the-ice-melting-and-it-will-drown-us-all or be-aware-because-the-end-is-near or the ridiculous the-end-is-near-so-let’s-kill-ourselves.
But anyway, yesterday felt like the end of the world because of that ridiculously hard OOAD (Object Oriented Application Development) test. I think I’ve hated Java since then.
Anyway, about the lyrics on the beginning of the post…
This is a beautiful song by Skeeter Davis, The End Of The World. Even though in the video clip she stood like a robot and her make up and hair do made her look like a transvestite, won’t you agree that she sang beautifully?
It’s a special song to me.
Well, not because of the lyrics…
Why does the sun go on shining?
Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don’t they know it’s the end of the world,
‘Cause you don’t love me any more? Why do the birds go on singing?
Why do the stars glow above?
Don’t they know it’s the end of the world.
It ended when I lost your love.I wake up in the morning and I wonder,
Why everything’s the same as it was.
I can’t understand. No, I can’t understand,
How life goes on the way it does. Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don’t they know it’s the end of the world.
It ended when you said goodbye. Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don’t they know it’s the end of the world.
It ended when you said goodbye.
I’m certainly not that desperate.
My mother said, when I was still small, I frequently cried, just like any other little children.
But not really ordinary.
I would stop crying… When my mother played songs. Any song. I would suddenly stop crying and keep quiet.
Especially for this song. The End Of The World.
Mom said that I “have a great taste of music since small”. Ha ha.
Oh and my second favourite song?
Can’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley.
Wise men say only fools rush in
But I cant help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
Would it be a sin
If I cant help falling in love with youLike a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I cant help falling in love with youLike a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I cant help falling in love with you
For I cant help falling in love with you
Any childhood song, dearies?

Childhood song? I can’t remember anything other than ‘Balonku Ada Lima’, ‘Bintang Kecil’, and… you know what I mean. That was when I was 5 or so.
In elementary school, however, I liked ‘Try Again’ and ‘The Perfect Fan’ (http://www.lyrics007.com/Backstreet%20Boys%20Lyrics/The%20Perfect%20Fan%20Lyrics.html) by Backstreet Boys, ‘Everyday I Love You’ by Boyzone, ‘Only Love’ by Trademark. Hehe.

tania, i think it’s a different type of childhood song. This song, I didn’t even realize that I liked it. =P until one day, I heard this song again and it sounded sooooooo familiar and then my mom told the story (the cry-then-stop-because-of-songs one).
Apparently my parents really loved to hear music. When I grew up I found many many familiar tunes which turned out to be the favourite songs of my parents (which means the played it quite often).
Btw, ur comment was previously caught in the spam box you know. Ha ha.

Yeah, I know, but that’s what my ‘childhood song’ is, since I don’t have an experience similar to yours in this case (my parents aren’t big fans of music)
Caught in spam box? How could that happen?
Oh, perhaps because I put an URL there?

hmm. geez. It got caught in the spam again. Weird.. Nothing’s wrong with your post…
Hmm according to your definition then, my childhood song was Michael Learns To Rock’s songs. My favourite is “That’s Why”. Ha ha ha.
My Songs… at My Grey World

[...] Di Balik Awan – Peterpan (translation : Behind the clouds) I don’t have many Indonesian songs in my music library. Not that I’m not patriotic whatsoever, it’s just that I’m too used to English songs since I was small. My mother listens to English songs ever since I was so small (mother said my favourite song is The End Of The World by Skeeter Davis. Look at this post for more info). Peterpan is a very famous band in Indonesia. My brother likes them so much. Hmm, maybe that was an understatement. My brother used to play their songs in loop (IN LOOP) many many times using the home’s hi-fi. At first, of course it’s ok, but then if you’re still sleeping and forced to hear the same song again and again, er……. “Tempatku melihat di balik awan, aku melihat di balik hujan…” (The place for me to see behind the clouds, I see behind the rain..)
