Commitment

Whoa. Such a big word. Okay, it might not be very big to you, but I guess you haven’t been asked to marry the person asking when you were only 15.

Ew. I will make sure such condition would never happen to me again.

Let’s get to the beginning first.

In my damn lovely school SMU, there is a requirement to do 80-hour community service. And, yes, without this, you can’t graduate. Have I told you that my school is so damn freaky?

So rather than bothering myself to do community service later, I joined my friends’ path : do the community service early. Some of my friends have already embarked by selling puzzle thingy for kidney dialysis thingy on streets. And I once helped them and it sucks. :p

But to embark on sucking (whoops) community service, you must first attend a meaningless volunteerism talk to so-called nurture your desire to volunteer to give back to community. (do you really want me to put the details here? blah)

I missed the matriculation’s volunteerism talk, so I’m out. I registered for the next volunteerism talk, but I got “IMPORTANT” Biz-IT talk on the same day so once again I’m out. Then I registered for volunteerism talk at NVPC, but I falsely registered for the corporate volunteerism talk and when I registered for the students’ one, it’s already full.

I guess you guys ain’t interested in my bad-luck story as always happened.

The thing is, I signed up for a community service in my school organized by a CCA club (won’t bother to explain). Sounded very easy, just to take care a booth and leave it be.

Well but as usual, something often ended up not like I planned.

My community service hours will not be clocked before I have that damn volunteerism talk verification thingy.

Damn. I spent like… 15 hours or so… and that doesn’t get clocked?

Add one worse thing and there you got the Total Bad cake.

And yea I got the cake! woo-hoo!

My LTB (Leadership and Team Building) group is going to set up a booth sell towel dogs made by children we visited for our community service project. (oh gaaahh.. another community service) Not gonna put the name of the society here since they say we’re gonna be sued or something or as my Singaporean friends said, “later kena sue”.

There there. Didn’t you smell the danger?

Not about the society one! About the booth!

I got to take care of the LTB booth also!

Surely no biggie for me. Not at all. Not when you don’t have another booth!

OMG you can just only leave the CCA booth la Sylv. Don’t get clocked one! Why still want? You take care LTB booth la, sell sell thing, then got money what..

No, dear, my groupmate didn’t say that to me. :p Sorry to disappoint you.

But, yea, can’t you see the rationale? Why must I take care of the CCA booth, while actually I don’t even get any community service hours?

This is when the big word came up.

It’s about commitment.

If I didn’t sign up to take care of the booth, no problem then.

But I have willfully and intentionally signed up.

Got to keep my commitment then. Even I got no hours.. Even I got no pay… (The second one is super impossible)

And even I had to work slightly hard because my two other friends playing the poisonous Counter-Strike and I’m around to explain things to people.

Commitment. A big word.

just a little funny fact.

Turned out, my LTB booth is located not far from my CCA booth. Haha. The power of multitasking!
